Garment Care
Good pieces last longer when they're looked after. Here's how to care for the materials we work with most.
Linen
Linen softens beautifully with every wash. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water, or hand wash for best results. Tumble dry on low or lay flat to air dry — linen dries quickly and will lose its shape if overdried. A light iron or steamer while slightly damp brings it back to crisp.
Avoid harsh detergents. Linen is naturally antibacterial, so it doesn't need to be washed after every wear.
Bamboo
Bamboo fabric is soft, breathable, and easy to care for. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water. Avoid high heat — tumble dry on low or air dry flat to maintain its shape and softness. Do not wring or twist.
Bamboo fibres are naturally odour-resistant, so airing out between wears is usually enough.
Organic Cotton
Machine wash in cold water on a regular or gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low or hang to air dry. Organic cotton can shrink slightly in high heat, so avoid hot wash settings. Iron on a medium setting if needed.
Wool & Knits
Hand wash in cold water with a gentle wool wash, or use the wool/delicate cycle on your machine. Never wring — press excess water out gently and lay flat to dry. Store folded, not hung, to prevent stretching. For pilling, use a fabric shaver to keep pieces looking fresh.
Silk & Delicates
Hand wash only in cool water with a mild detergent. Do not wring or rub. Roll in a clean towel to remove excess water, then hang or lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight. Iron on the lowest setting, or steam from the reverse side.
General Tips
Wash dark colours inside out to prevent fading. Treat stains promptly — blot, don't rub. Store clean garments in a cool, dry place. Use cedar blocks instead of mothballs for natural fibre storage.
When in doubt, check the care label — it always takes priority over general guidance.
A Note on Washing Frequency
Most natural fibre garments don't need to be washed after every wear. Airing pieces out between wears extends their life, preserves colour, and reduces environmental impact.
